Industrial visit to the Solid Precision Engineering Sdn Bhd at Sungai Petani, Kedah
On April 14, 2014, a group of 14 students from Mnufacturing with Management Program, School of Mechanical Engineering has been organized an industrial visit to Solid Precision Engineering Sdn Bhd located at Sungai Petani Kedah. The purpose of this visit is to expose undergraduate students to metal stamping process and tooling design, which related to their course i.e. EPD 332 Tooling Design.
The visit begins with brief introduction by Mr Boey Kok Hong, as the Managing Director of the company. This company is producing precision metal stamping solutions including design, prototyping, precision tooling, precision metal stamping parts and variety of value-added assembly services. The company specialization is in the design and fabrication of multistage progressive tools, which are used in automated stamping processes. After that, the students bring to factory tour. Lastly, we ended this visit by giving certificate of appreciation from the School of Mechanical Engineering USM, handed by Dr. Ahmad Baharuddin Abdullah.
A group of researcher from Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) has visited the Metal Forming Laboratory on 10th of December 2013 lead by Dr. Mohd Zaidi Sidek. Brief presentation about the laboratory was given by Dr. Ahmad Baharuddin Abdullah. The history and research conducted were highlighted in the briefing. Few potential research areas such as sheet metal stamping and rolling process had been identified for future research collaboration with the Manufacturing Process Group at UMP .
Pada 13hb Januari 2014, lawatan ke industri ke Norstar Technology Sdn Bhd bertempat di Bandar Perda, Bukit Mertajam telah dilakukan. Saya di sambut oleh En. Wan Ishak, selaku pemilik syarikat. Saya telah dibawa melawat dua tapak kilang beliau. Syarikat ini juga mengeluarkan produk sendiri iaitu penapis minyak.Selain itu syarikat ini juga membekalkan komponen kepada beberapa syarikat seperti DRB-Hicom. Daripada perbincangan dan perkongsian ilmu, beberapa projek berpotensi telah dikenalpasti dan ini membuka ruang kepada penyelidikan dan pembangunan (R&D), khasnya dalam meningkatkan penyelidikan tempaan logam di PPK Mekanik, USM.
