 Forming Equipments

There are a few basic facilties to prepare/produce specimens for further testing. It is also open for outsider usage with minimum charges.

Forming and Material Testing (Available)

For further analysis, there are few test rig available in the MFRL including V-bending rig to study the springback pattern, twist forming for measurement of twist springback, pin-on hole bearing test, torque out test and cupping test. We are in the process of developing few other test rig including dome test for formability study.

Metal Forming Laboratory Demonstration

In enhancing student understanding of the metal forming process, they have been brought to the metal forming laboratory for demonstration. The students were split into four groups and they ask to prepare a short report from their visit. The tooling and product are as shown in figures below.

Also thank you to all technicians, who keep advising, supporting and assisting the students during their project, esspecially Mr. Azhar and Mr. Shawal. Industrial visit to the Solid Precision Engineering Sdn Bhd at Sungai Petani, Kedah

On April 14, 2014, a group of 14 students from Mnufacturing with Management Program, School of Mechanical Engineering has been organized an industrial visit to Solid Precision Engineering Sdn Bhd located at Sungai Petani Kedah. The purpose of this visit is to expose undergraduate students to metal stamping process and tooling design, which related to their course i.e. EPD 332 Tooling Design.

The visit begins with brief introduction by Mr Boey Kok Hong, as the Managing Director of the company. This company is producing precision metal stamping solutions including design, prototyping, precision tooling, precision metal stamping parts and variety of value-added assembly services. The company specialization is in the design and fabrication of multistage progressive tools, which are used in automated stamping processes. After that, the students bring to factory tour. Lastly, we ended this visit by giving certificate of appreciation from the School of Mechanical Engineering USM, handed by Dr. Ahmad Baharuddin Abdullah.
