WAAM Specimen Preparation - Surface Smoothing Rig

September 22, 2023 - Surface quality is one of the problem for specimen made by WAAM. Inavailability of the facilties does not give much choice to the researcher unless finding alternatives. Conventional milling machine is one of the alternatives, however thin specimen is not allow to be used on the machine to aviod specimen from flying. At the Metal Forming Research Lab, we have developed a custom-made rig for that purposes. The rig is attached to a belt-grinding machine. Specimen before and after the grinding is as shown below. The initila thickness 5-6 mm and the final 2-3 mm only.
